How this is calculated
This estimates 2026 U.S. federal income tax using progressive marginal brackets on income after the standard deduction, plus FICA: Social Security (6.2% up to the $184,500 wage base) and Medicare (1.45% on all wages, plus an extra 0.9% above $200,000 single / $250,000 married filing jointly). It does NOT include state or local income tax — which varies enormously across the U.S. (some states have none, others exceed 10%) — nor pre-tax deductions like 401(k) or health insurance. Figures reflect tax year 2026 (IRS Revenue Procedure 2025-32).
